Jizera Mountains & Krkonose MTB cycling weekend
Do not make the mistake to think that 2 neighbouring mountain ranges will be the same. This mountain bike weekend in the Czech Republic will allow you to explore 2 neighbouring but significantly different mountain ranges in Northern Bohemia in close vicinity of Germany and Poland.
You will have a hard time believing that mountain bike touring in the Jizera Mountains on the first day will be so different when compared to MTB touring in Krkonose National Park on the second day of this cycling weekend. The MTB weekend will start strategically close to the border of the Jizera Mountains and Krkonose National park.
On the first day, we will do guided MTB trip across a big part of the Jizera Mountains visiting historical glassworks settlements, major dams in the Jizera Mountains, outlook tower to appreciate the amazing birds-eye view of Jizera Mountains and also some spectacles of local nature.
On the second day, we will do an MTB cycling tour in Krkonose National Park. You will explore amazing nature very close to the most protected zone of the National park and also visit few cottages that are so typical for this region, few small cities at the foothills, and 2 ski resorts.
Day 1 - MTB weekend Jizera Mountains and Krkonose
We will start the first day of our MTB weekend at the iconic settlement of Jizera Mountains - Jizerka - which gained significant importance in the 19th century due to glass production and head East to visit the most famous peat bogs in Jizera Mountains - Cihadla.
Then we will be cycling across the Jizera Mountains to get to Kristianov - famous historical glassworks settlement which was destroyed by a big fire in 1887.
While MTB riding towards the city of Bedrichov, originally founded as glassworks settlement and nowadays famous for being the start and finish of the legendary Jizerska 50 race we will pass by the popular Samalova cottage at Nova Louka.
Our mountain bike adventure in the Jizera Mountains will continue to the outlook tower Kralovka and later to the largest dam in the Jizera Mountains and village Josefuv Dul established by the ruling aristocracy - Des Fours - in 1701 which became one of the most celebrated centers at the foothills of Jizera mountains mainly due to glass production that lasted for several centuries.
Before the end of our guided cycling trip in the Jizera Mountains, you will visit the Broken Dam which is a memorial of the biggest tragedy of its kind in Europe during the early 20th century.
Day 2 - Cycling weekend Krkonose National Park and Jizera Mountains
The second day of our mountain bike weekend in the Czech Republic will start close to the Polish border. We will be mountain biking in Krkonose National park, following the border of the most protected zone I of the National park, enjoying amazing nature and spectacular views.
We will make a stop at Vosecka bouda 1260 meters above sea level and then continue to cottage Dvoracky which was built in 1707. A nice long descend will take us to a popular ski resort Rokytnice nad Jizerou.
The final part of our biking tour will be along Jizera river which is the natural border between the Jizera Mountains and Krkonose National park heading towards the finish of our MTB bike trip which will be at another popular ski resort Harrachov.
